Dr. Veronica Hawkins

I was fascinated with my father’s profession since I was a girl. I used to enjoy helping him organize his medicines and supplies. Beginning when I was 17, I started to assist him in many of the surgeries he performed. My father has been a professor in the School of Medicine in Mexico’s UNAM for the past 30 years and one of the best head and neck specialist in Mexico City where I grew up. I also inherited the artistic ability of my mother who was an Art Restorer. Both of my parents inspired me to become a dentist.

At the age of 17, I obtained my bachelors degree with honors in Chemistry and Biology. When I was 18, I was admitted to the school of dentistry in UNAM National University of Mexico. At the age of 21, I graduated from dental school and I did one year of internship in pedodontics. I completed postgraduate studies in Orthodontics and Oral Surgery in the General Hospital of Mexico City.

I came to the USA to improve my English since I wanted to continue postgraduate studies in England. But, instead of continuing my journey, my plans changed when I met my future husband Richard who encouraged me to take the dental boards in this country. I revalidated my studies in USA and then took the National boards and the California state boards at Loma Linda University obtaining my Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1991.

I have been practicing dentistry with my husband in private practice in Riverside, California for the past 15 years. I am passionate about including aesthetics into my dentistry work – even the simplest filling is a work of art for me.
